Classroom Book Strategy

Here I am back with more to say about classroom books.  I can't seem to leave the topic alone for very long.  This week I tried a new classroom book strategy.  I worked with small groups to write the text together.  Each child was able to contribute, because they took turns writing words.  I was able to focus on several skills:

 capitals
punctuation
spaces
handwriting
segmenting sounds
clapping syllables
spelling patterns 
snap words (a.k.a. sight words)
rereading

 I've a feeling this book will be a popular one among the bunch for a while.



Gotta love classroom books!

    For some reason, I haven't made my usual TON of class books this year. Last year was a record high. Isn't it odd how some years a program/project is such a hit and the next year it flops or is "forgotten about?" Maybe that could be one of my school goals for the new year? No better time than the fresh month of January.

    Like the term SNAP WORDS for sight words...thanks!

    I want to start working on writing in small groups. Maybe something like this could be a good first project! great idea!

    I've been doing class books since I got the idea from you. They are always the ones the kids like to read. I would think they have them memorized, but what do I know! Sara
