Saturday Sayings: I Value...

With a quote like that, it only makes sense to make a list.

I value...
authenticity
purposeful and meaningful instruction
teaching skills in context
teaching to the heart
the whole child
a respectful climate
high expectations
internal rewards
logical consequences
community
problem solving and independence
kids teaching kids
(I'll probably think of ten more obvious and important things I value once I post this.)

Having said all that, does my reality match up with my pedagogy?  I say I value these things.  Where might there be some disconnect when it comes to what occurs daily in my classroom?  Food for thought, huh?  Good thing I have three months to ponder such things.

(At the moment, I also value summer vacation.)

    1. Thank you Lori for thinking so. I'd sure like to see more of it.

  2. I love your list! What a great question you pose as well...matching reality with pedagogy? I don't think of our three months as all vacation time...There is a lot of construction that occurs too!

    1. Jenny, yes there's lots to be worked on for the next three months, huh? Matching reality and pedagogy takes time.

  3. I value my blog friends who feel closer to me sometimes than IRL friends. I value watching a child think through something and make a great connection. I value that a little girl asked me today what my teaching name is. I said Mrs. Moran, but I felt like Wonder Woman might be more appropriate. Thank you for helping me grow and think every day.

  5. Tammy - I've been reading this book and I feel like you've read my jumbled thoughts and made a great list. I especially like your question at the end - does what I value match what I'm doing? I always enjoy your Saturday Sayings - thanks for doing them! Sara

    1. Sara, thank you for reading and enjoying. Anyway, I think it's the question Debbie Miller would want us to ask. She's so good at making us reflect.
