Today my kids came back from spring break to find their published small moments and illustrations displayed on t-shirts. (Go here to get the background post about this and visit Amanda who shared the idea with me.) Most of my writers wore their shirts all day, and they sure enjoyed their audience.
While my best friend and I were ironing and doing our best to avoid toxic fumes (Okay, so I don't know if they were toxic, but they sure didn't smell great) she convinced me that I should make my own t-shirt. I wasn't so sure I wanted to bother with it, but she won me over. After all, I'm the literacy leader in my room and need to show how much I value being a writer too. Here's mine.
I'm wondering how many of them will return to school with these shirts on tomorrow? Regardless, what a way to celebrate being writers!
This is truly inspirational. You are an amazing model of education. Thank you for sharing.

Rachel, they were pretty excited. Three boys wore them again the next day even. :)
DeleteYay!! I wanted to see your class enjoying their shirts. I bet they were so surprised and just loved them! Very cool that you did it too. :)

Lori, they did love them. I felt a little weird walking around with my writing on my back, but I don't think they had a problem with it at all. They're much more confident obviously!
DeleteThank you for sharing these great shirts! This is just awesome!
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to write and get a TShirt!

Em and Maria, thank you so much for the support. I'm glad you found an idea here that you love.
DeleteThis is such a Wonderful idea! I would have never thought of this. I am a pre-service teacher teaching in a 2nd grade classroom and I think my students would love this activity! It is a great activity that will get students excited about going through the writing process while showing them that you value their work. Also, I am so glad your friend convinced you to make a shirt for yourself. We are constantly learning in our education classes how important it is for teachers to show their students that they are writers too and are consistently learning and improving their writing abilities. Thank you for sharing this activity! I am definitely going to try this in my future classroom.

Amy, I'm glad that you plan on using this idea in the future. I would have never thought of it either. It sure does promote writing in a big way.
