Just Tickled

This comes a little late in the game since I used this idea during the last week of school, but honestly I'm scraping the barrel for helpful posts.  I keep thinking one of these days I'll just plumb run out of ideas to share, and believe me, this one isn't all that inspirational or original anyway.  With that said, I should probably let you make up your own mind on the usefulness of this post.  Moving on.

The last week of school is the only time of the year when I use word searches.  Maybe that's why the kids think it's such a treat.  Truthfully that's just part of the reason.  What makes these word searches worthy of their time are the words they're searching for - their names.  The kids are just tickled that they can find their own names and they're quite vocal when they've found a friend's.  It's a fun way to end the year.

I've used two different sites to create these word searches.  Both are easy to use.  Click on the pictures and you'll be taken to the sites.  I sure hope someone out there finds this idea a useful one!

  1. YaY - I LOVE Word Searches and used to always make them for my students when I taught Spanis. it was such a great way to help them learn the words. (of course that was before word-search sites even existed and I had to fill in the grids by hand!). I'll bet your kids just love seeing their names and searching for their friends' names!

  2. I like this idea, Tammy! I've always loved doing word searches myself. I have my students do word family word searches. Using students' names would be an awesome way to introduce word searches to my class.

  6. This is perfect for our slighty egocentric friends that love to find themselves anywhere! Also a great spelling practice throughout the year to help with name spellings. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I was doing word searches as one of my spelling activities. I had a little girl whose paper was always like a crazy rai nbow of colors. I couldn't figure out what she was doing, so I watched her one day. If she was looking for the word "come" she would find a c and color it then find an o and color it and so on! lol Obviously she didn't understand the concept of a word find, but in retrospect she was getting practice spelling each word.
