In the Right Direction

I've mentioned how Idaho math teachers are moving in the right direction thanks to a math initiative from our state.  From my viewpoint, we're learning about giving kids better tasks that press their conceptual thinking - tasks that can be solved in various student-centered ways.

Recently I attended a composing and decomposing workshop and took away a great task.  It presses their thinking and allows for various modes of solving the problem.

I fancied it up and liked it enough that I made a few more.

  1. These are so cute! But besides being cute, they are great activities that stretch their thinking! Great job!

  4. Happy Thursday (feels like Friday!) Your comments make me smile. The Terra Nova was a new test for us this year. I didn't see it until a few weeks ago. I am truly stoked about the kids' reading scores, especially since I didn't have any clue about the test content! I agree with you, too, regarding the testing of kindergartners.

I just looked at your creations and my wheels are spinning! I'll be buying eight-packs of crayons this weekend! Thanks for sharing :-)
