To Tweet or Not to Tweet

I'm clueless about Twitter.  I pretty much know zilch about it.  For example, hashtags look like pound signs to me.  So here's my question for anyone who is willing to answer.  How can Twitter help me be a better teacher?  I'd love to hear what you think about this.

  1. I don't have a great answer for your question...but while at the Teacher's College they were so into it. People tweeted quotes from speakers. Every Wednesday they have a twitter chat on some education topic. I have twitter, but forget to use it frequently. I follow a lot of authors and my library and Scholastic. That gives me lots of great book ideas. I guess it is all about who you follow on Twitter as to how beneficial it can be.

    1. Laurie, thanks for your perspective. If I start using it, I might have to ask for some following ideas.

  2. I follow a lot of people in education fields- it links me to scholarly articles they've written. For me, I use pinterest to get fun crafty ideas, blogs to get lesson ideas and twitter to keep up to date with educational research and legislation. You can use it any way you want to though, you just have to remember to check it! :)

  3. I connect with other educators with Twitter. It is a quick easy way of checking in on what they are doing. Also, some groups will get together to discuss different topics as a group. I also follow a lot of Christian leaders and can keep up with what is going on with them that way.

  5. I also don't quite understand the draw. I do have an account, but have never used to it tweet anything. I do read conversations like on gtchat or kinderchat and it does often direct me to articles or resources that I would not have seen otherwise.

    1. Miss Trayers, I'm not familiar with gtchat or kinderchat either. There's obviously a lot out there I don't know about.

  7. Ha ha! Kristi and I are in the same situation. We just started Facebook and decided that was enough for us right now. Lol!

  8. Tammy, I'm right there with you. I can barely keep up with Facebook and my blog, I don't think I could handle anything else. I'm glad you asked the question I have had for a while. :)

    2. I am planning on using it to give parents snippets about what we are doing as a class..celebrations and the like.

Also, like some have said,a great way to keep up with the latest education news.

It doesn't take up too much time. However it might if you had a personal and a professional one.

    3. Marie, thanks for the input. I'd thought about how to use it with parents, but I could do that with Facebook too.

  9. P.s. your blog seems to cover quite a bit both for teachers and parents, so you might not need it.
