Reading Makes You Feel Good

I don't ask my readers, "Does reading make you feel good?"  I ask them, "Why does reading make you feel good?"  Since I'm the teacher, I get to assume lots of things, and fortunately, they all go along with it.  Todd Parr inspired me to ask this question and to create a classroom book about their answers.  I posted about it before along with other Todd Parr creations (look here), but this time around I made the book a different way.

Many of them said that reading makes them feel good because it's fun.  Their answers will likely develop and become more insightful as the years go on, but for now, what a great reason to read!  Thanks Todd!

(By the way, I'm in our book too.  I believe that's important.)

  2. Every time I think I couldn't love you more, I read another post and find I love you even more. I HAVE to do this. Can you believe I've never made a class book? I am the worst. That is my goal next week! Thanks for the inspiration. Do you print your photos at school or get real photos done?

  3. Tammy I just love this idea!
I have a question: Do your kids read the class books? Are they popular? Because whenever I make one they tend to be ignored. I'm pretty sure it's because of me....but I'm not sure how to promote them. What do you do? I'd love to know because I think class made books are a wonderful thing.

    1. Barb, my kids love our class books. They're falling apart by the end of the year. We make them frequently and keep them in a special tub.

  4. What a wonderful idea! I love how you had a picture of the child reading on the page. I haven't seen the Todd Parr book, I'll have to see if I can find it.

  6. Although I'm sure they'll become more insightful as they grow, isn't it wonderful that so many of them find reading fun?! :)

  7. I was doing so well with class books at the beginning of the year - we made 3 right away. But now it's slowed down. I have to remember to keep doing this. Thanks for another great idea!

  8. I agree with Sara...I'm always great at the beginning and slow down. Thanks for the ideas...and more importantly, thanks for the thoughts about a subject we want to promote! (I love that you put yourself in the books and your art. The kids notice!)
