Especially when teachers take recess away for children who didn't 'do' their homework. What do you think about homework in K-2?

Thanks for stopping by my blog as well!

Kelli
Tales From a Traveling TeacherKellihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03917180234005884571noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605926763598675958.post-48795803303161339692012-07-21T20:52:19.046-07:002012-07-21T20:52:19.046-07:00Barbara, I always enjoy it when you come by! I think you should post about your word wall when you find a way to make it work better for you. I'd love to hear more.Tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18053983168084838303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605926763598675958.post-60286652667593868622012-07-21T20:40:09.451-07:002012-07-21T20:40:09.451-07:00It's important to examine that "wallpaper...It's important to examine that "wallpaper" all the time, isn't it? I agree that there will always be bits and pieces hanging around. I'm always looking at ways to refine and improve the learning environment ... and it definitely sounds like you are, too. I'm currently looking at the word wall. I know! Sounds strange, 'cause I've had one for probably 15 years and everyone has one. I teach to it all the time and I know there are tons of great advantages to it, but I'm starting to wonder if it's way too much for some kids and if I should just go with more of a McCracken / phonetic kind of approach (which I do ... but I'm thinking I should emphasize this more). This is a rambling comment 'cause I've been thinking about this for awhile and I'm still not sure. I'm off to check and see what YOU do in your classroom regarding spelling.
Thanks again for another fabulous Saturday Saying!

❀Barbara❀
Grade ONEderful
Ruby Slippers Blog DesignsBarbarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16776494983428336686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605926763598675958.post-71375304137581556672012-07-21T18:53:47.124-07:002012-07-21T18:53:47.124-07:00Robynn, thanks for coming by and leaving a comment...Robynn, thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.Tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18053983168084838303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605926763598675958.post-1069521505804381392012-07-21T18:52:39.818-07:002012-07-21T18:52:39.818-07:00Chrissy, thanks for joining me today. I joined in and just posted my Saturday Saying!

The district where we live--and my children attend--adopted a "no spelling tests" stance. It was an adjustment, but I can understand the rationale. Sight learners enjoy spelling tests; we do so well on them! Ultimately, I am a good speller because I am a reader. :-)

Thanks for propping me up lately....I value your comments!
ReadWriteSingChrissyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07841483739221560253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605926763598675958.post-52491512616522351822012-07-21T08:22:22.881-07:002012-07-21T08:22:22.881-07:00Love your picture!Love your picture!Paigehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04675161962580582945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7605926763598675958.post-70148572811305444072012-07-21T07:23:23.650-07:002012-07-21T07:23:23.650-07:00No can of worms here I came to the same conclusion...No can of worms here I came to the same conclusion a few years ago. Most teachers in my building still give the weekly tests, and honestly I try to the last part of the year to prepare them for their next year. But what starts out to be 9 weeks of tests ends up being 2.I pretty much feel the same way about bulletin boards and "themes." My walls are bare until the kiddos get there.
Thanks for another great saying!
Tammy

First Grade @ Storybook Cafe
dtklinger@gmail.comTammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14033713836621074476noreply@blogger.com
